Two of the greatest aspects of building model cars are
the sharing of accumulated knowledge and the transferral
of skills from one modeler to another. One thing that
makes both even greater is when the modelers involved
are father and son, like Kenny Kovach and his son Kevin.
Like many of us Kenny set aside the hobby years ago when
the responsibilities of being a grown-up encroached on
having fun. But when Kevin grew old enough to start building
model cars of his own, Kenny recognized his old projects
as a terrific springboard to forging a very strong relationship
with his son while teaching him important skills and having
fun together. Kenny and Kevin spend time together working
on projects while Kenny teaches Kevin to take
his time in building and to enjoy the hobby in a calm
and peaceful way.
The teaching extends well beyond the skills, patience,
and determination needed for model car building. Kenny
is applying the same parenting technique his own father,
Emil, applied many years ago. Emil and Kenny spent time
together working on projects
while Emil taught
a young Kenny to take his time in building and to enjoy
the hobby in a calm and peaceful way. Sound familar? Pehaps
one day Kevin will carry on this family tradition.
